Content filtering and spam blocking

• Vircom’s patented Sequential Content Analyzer (SCA^TM) engine monitors millions of daily transmissions to maintain a knowledge base of the latest threats in circulation. Vircom experts further train the engine by customizing it to filter what human eyes recognize as spam and deliver automatic updates at up to 5-minute intervals. This knowledge base is able to identify image, pdf and common file type spam.
• Equipped with attachment scanners that can identify real file types – not simply their renamed extensions, modusGate Appliance can block potentially dangerous attachment types. You can customize your own policy and apply it individually to specific domains or individuals – even for encrypted archives.
• Content filtering is complemented by intelligent recognition of the predominant language within an email message. Customizing which users/domains may transmit or receive specific languages can be integrated seamlessly into your overall filtration policies.
• modus technology applies separate filtering strategies, administration and end-user quarantining to counteract phishing. Also, IP address information and content analysis is used to profile and block phishing spam.
• modusGate Appliance features the industry’s only fully open-ended programmable scripting engine. Outbound, inbound and internal email may be monitored for acceptable content, without any restrictions on selection criteria or associated actions.

Pre-filtering and security

• modusGate Appliance ensures your perimetre defence with pre-filtering, which affords a high degree of control over settings that help reduce bandwidth consumption, reduce server load and eliminate threats to the infrastructure itself. These include: connection blocking, rate controls, IP address trusted/blocked sender lists, DoS protection, and directory harvesting defense.
• For anti-virus protection, Vircom’s modusGate Appliance employs the innovative and predictive Sandbox^TM technology from Norman Data Defense^®. Should a virus definition fail to identify a zero-hour threat, Sandbox^TM will run in a virtual environment to perform a real-time analysis of the consequences of the unknown code.
• And with additional virus protection available from McAfee^®, peace of mind is guaranteed even when facing viruses that have yet to reach critical mass.

Management and monitoring

• Thanks to its highly granular design, modusGate Appliance settings can be customized globally, per domain and per user, for deep policy application. modusGate Appliance supports an unlimited number of domains with no additional licensing.
• The system’s operational status and usage statistics can be viewed and logged with built-in real-time monitoring through SNMP and Windows^TM performance monitors. Vircom’s Message Audit Log can track and record all significant message status events for time periods that are customizable per user/domain.
• Quarantine reports, which are sent on a pre-determined schedule to any or all users, can be completely customized per user/domain for maximum effectiveness. Viruses, spam, attachments and phishing are treated separately.
