How to Enable POP and IMAP on Exchange 2013 in 5 Easy Steps

This blog is a simple how to article which allows any IT technician to enable POP and IMAP services on Microsoft Exchange 2013. This will allow any mail client authentication and login access to emails even with POP and IMAP enabled alternatives to authentication – if ever any form of Exchange failure were to occur. Below is the step by step instructions on how to enable POP and IMAP through the Exchange Admin Center.

1- Login to the Exchange Admin Center and select SERVERS and then select the Exchange server hosting your Client Access Service (CAS).

2- Select the POP3 or IMAP service, whichever service you wish to enable, pull down the LOGON METHOD list and choose which method of authentication for the Exchange policy and click SAVE.

3- Launch Windows Services through the run command Services.msc and restart the following services as seen below to enable either POP and/or IMAP.

4- To test that both services are accepting POP and IMAP requests, launch a command prompt through the run command CMD.exe and telnet to IP address of the CAS server on port 110 or 143 to see if a banner is displayed.

5- Attempt to authenticate via POP or IMAP to determine if the service is enabled and working.
