Your corporate data center is hit with a power outage. All UPS systems are running and operational or are they? You soon realize that a faulty UPS system supporting your networks database environment has not done its job. All data are still intact and there does not seem to be any corruption, except for the SQLs TCP stack. All client connections to the SQL server cause the service to crash with the following error being reported:
SQL Server is not ready to accept new client connections. Wait a few minutes before trying again. If you have access to the error log, look for the informational message that indicates that SQL Server is ready before trying to connect again. [CLIENT: IP_ADDRESS]
This is a sure sign that the TCP stack has been corrupted. A quick solution is to reinstall SQL on a different instance to restore the TCP stack, then re-import to the original database. Hopefully you’ve backed up the databases.
The most important point here is to invest in a reliable and long-lasting UPS system. Prices may vary, but very inexpensive UPS systems can be found which can provide high quality and longevity. Sometimes it’s worth it to pay the extra buck and get more for your bang. It certainly beats investing in migraine remedies!
