There it is again: another email in your Inbox from an obscure financial institution, requesting that you click on the available link and be redirected to an unknown, unsecured website. Prompted for personal details or your credit card number, you hesitate to enter this information thinking something seems fishy. Your instincts are right: but it is not ‘fishy’ but phishing! Shouldn’t your ISP have protected you from this annoyance, especially since phishing scanning is readily available?
Phishing scanning is now a staple of email filter solutions, and SURBL.org collects and blocks websites that appear in unsolicited emails. The ph.surbl.org list was added to the SURBL infrastructure to protect users specifically from malware and phishing emails – for free. Since June 2009, the list has included ZeuS Tracker, and data from the Malware Domain List was added in October 2009.
Wow! You get double protection for the price of one – who would turn that down? Knowing your data is secure and having some pocket change leftover is a big plus when it comes to security!
