Should Cybercriminals face life in jail?
Announced this week in New Delhi, India, cyber-terrorism is now punishable with life-time imprisonment.
An amendment was made to the Information Technology Act that was passed in 2008 to now include new-age cyber offences such as identity theft, cyber stalking and cyber harassment, among others.
Special services of the Organization of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) have identified 1.7 thousand websites with criminal content and about ten of terrorism character, including web-sites that recruited suicide bombers, CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha told the fifth international conference on security and anti-terrorism.
Given the sheer number of sites out there with varying degrees of criminal intent, are life-time prison terms realistic?
What do you think?
