The Wikileaks document dump has been all over the news this past week. How was this enormous security breach possible? Because so many people had access to a huge network that was not well secured.
Have you looked at your own security procedures recently? If it was so easy to breach the US government with all of its security measures, how does your network stand up to scrutiny? How do you ensure your employees know how to protect your valuable information? Now is definitely a good time to think about how best to contain your company’s vital data to prevent both intentional and unintentional leaks. What kind of policies do you have for working with files at home, copying to writable media, etc.?
What about your mail server and email protocols? Email is ubiquitous and all too easy to subvert via spam, phishing and other malware. Email security is particularly important and should make up a significant part of any company’s IT security policy. Do you have secure email protocols that your employees must follow? What do you think are the most important measures to prevent data leakage?
