Have you ever traveled to a foreign country and realized that you don’t have the slightest clue what the signs say?
Spanish, French, German, Chinese etc. Trying to figure out any language can be a nightmare.
Well good news! Google has created an application that allows you to use your camera for instant text translation. The application can seamlessly translate signs from over 90 languages.
How it works?
Once you’ve downloaded the Google Translate Application it’s quite simple to use (Android or iPhone).
First select the language that you want to translate, let’s say French to English
Open the application> Press the camera Icon on your device and point your camera at a sign you want to translate. Almost instantly, you’ll see the correct translation on your screen.
I personally tested the Google Translate App from English to Spanish and from French to Spanish and it worked with great accuracy. At times the application may not pick up on some words, but the overall results are amazing. The Google Translate app should give you an overall good understanding of what you are translating and allow you to navigate with more confidence.
You can even use the application for voice translations. All you need to do is simply tap the microphone icon and start talking in the foreign tongue first. Once the foreign tongue is recognized tap the Microphone icon and both people can begin talking.
The Google Translate App will pull in text-based translations of both sides of the conversation in real-time. So next time you need directions in a foreign country you can always rely on locals without any hesitations.
Google Translate is definitely a must have application on your phone.
